Audience blog
The target audience of teen horror films are usually teenagers form the ages of 15 up,like horror films. although film ratings can often mean that it is targeted at 18 and above. they use young actors to attract it to the younger audience and base the story lines and props around today young generation, this is usually why older people do not enjoy these films as much as they are not as connected. An example of this is Jennifer’s body where they use Megan Fox a well known teen actor to play the young teen girl, her bedroom is full of posters that a young audience can connect to. Films usually it is aimed at both genders but frequently uses things such as sex appeal and violence to attract men to them. Women enjoy this genre as it has a social element and they can scare themselves together and have a discussion about it after.

Analyisis of an opening sequence
Jennifers body opening sequence
The scene opens with the gentle sound of wind chimes, this non-diagetic sound instantly creates a spooky tone. It’s a very dark low contrast scene which increases the on edge feel. a point of view tracking shot is used to create the feel of somebody creeping up to the window. This is typical of the genre.
An extreme close up, this portrays the feeling of being enclosed. The next shot is a sexual shot of a teen girl, the camera technique (jibbing) teases the viewer increasing the sexy tone typical of teen horrors. Props such as posters and leg warmers make it obvious to the viewer that she is a teen, Also soft light from the telly is cast over the teen increasing the sexy tone further.
A tracking shot is used to introduce us to a blonde girl a mental asylum. Scars are used to create a violent theme. The theme is carried on at the next scene when the girl kicks a hospital worker, shocking the audience and creating confusion and giving a taste of what’s still to come. The girl is moved to a cell where through the use of chiaroscuro lighting, connoting her bad intentions.
Scream oppening sequence
the scene starts with a extreme close up of a telephone, with the sound of screaming in the background. This emidiatly alarts the audience to the phone call. low key lighting also supports this scary feel. A hot young teen answers the phone, this is typical of teen horroe genre. Aclose up shot is used next to show fear creeping into the character when the phone rings again. When she answers for the second time she shows the anger which will be used alot i nthe rest of the film.
Adark shadowy scene is used to show us that this house is sercluded ( typical of horror). the use of crickets in the background supports our theory of the house being out in the middle of no-where. props such as popcorn emphasis the teen aspect and knifes are used to show the theme of violence. the talk of horror films create dramatic irony.
the lighting becomes low key as the conversation gets darker. a close up shot is used for drama, and the whole scene a tracking shot is used to show how she is being stalked and enclosed.
